It's a Self-portrait! Work In Progress 2

Holy mackerel, I kept my word!

I am not 100% finished with this, but I did promise to show more of my work process. Not sure if I will post the next update any time soon, but I will post!

I worked a lot of tints and shades of the skin, as well as the hair. The eyes came out well, but I do look a little like I am staring off into space. Which is something I often do, but I am going to fix!!

ENJOY!

It's a Self-portrait! Work In Progress 1

Hey all! Hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

I've been helping around my parent's house a lot, so I haven't been able to get as much digital work as I would like. I have nearly finished a painting and just started painting on a table that I am very excited about. When it is finished, I hope to post it here.

On Facebook, a group of my friends have an event to have artists create self-portraits for a week, and I decided to join in. Since I wanted to share some of my process, I figured what better place than here?

I took a photograph and used the polygonal lasso tool in Photoshop to block out basic shapes. Now all I have to do now is to add multiple layers with different tints and shades to show the highlights and shadows. More often than not, that is the most time-consuming part of this technique. One of my favorite patterns is of wood grain, which I incorporated in the background.

I will post updates, and I should be done within the next few days.

I hope that all my American friends have a safe Independence Day!

ENJOY!
